Established in 1985, the orchidPhile specializes in cutting-edge Phalaenopsis breeding with a focus on the more unique, colorful and often fragrant compact growing waxy novelties and the amazingly floriferous multi-floral miniatures. As a result of our annual trips to Taiwan, we are able to obtain many Phalaenopsis species and hybrids that would otherwise never be available in the US.
In addition to Phalaenopsis, we also carry the miniature varieties of many other genera, including Cattleyas, Dendrobiums and Vandaceous, which grow and flower easily under the same low light and warm temperature conditions as our Phalaenopsis.
Although we don't maintain a retail business location at our nursery in CT, you can readily find us exhibiting and selling at many orchid shows and events in the Northeast. We always send out an informative Pre-Order List (complete with pictures, descriptions and prices) prior to many of our shows so please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to be added to our e-mail list.
Spring has finally arrived ~ or did we skip spring & head directly into summer ? Whatever the case, our orchids are looking a lot happier due to our longer days and the solar warmth. We’re just beginning to see many of our novelty hybrids initiate their first-bloom spikes and are looking forward to seeing the range of colors and patterns they will produce. As they flower up, we’ll photograph and add them to our Pre-Order list. So do keep an eye on our lists over the summer for many new additions to this group of fragrant novelty-flowered Phalaenopsis.
This May we will be speaking & selling at two orchid society meetings ~ I will be speaking on how to grow & pot properly in New Zealand Moss, especially geared to those who are afraid of growing in it:
Deep Cut Orchid Society, NJ, (regular meeting) ~ Tuesday, May 8th:
If you’d like to Pre-Order plants from the attached list to be delivered to one of our upcoming events in the next few weeks, please let us know at least 3 days before the event, so we can pull, tag & set them aside for you ~ quantities on some stock are extremely limited so a Pre-Order assures you won’t be disappointed if we’re either sold out or fail to bring something you might have your eye on. Contact us with your Pre-Order via e-mail at email@example.com & be sure to let us know which event you plan to attend !
Note: We will not be bringing any plants which are marked as “not yet fully established” to these events unless they’ve been specifically Pre-Ordered. For our Mail Order clients, we will set aside, & tag for you, all “Reservations”, but we feel it’s best to avoid the additional stress of these plants being shipped until we’re assured they are well established & ready to travel.

Flora Peculia is dedicated to the promotion of Neofinetia falcata and Japanese orchids in Canada and around the world. The goal is to search out, bring for sale and grow species of Japanese orchids, including Neofinetia falcata, Sedirea japonica, Dendrobium moniliforme and Japanese Cymbidium goeringii. We have over 100 varieties, all grown and presented in the traditional Japanese way.
For the beginner reading this, Neofinetia falcata is a culture unto itself in Japan. This one species has over 2300 varieties listed as well as having an entire society devoted to its culture. In a nutshell, the species comes in a variety of forms including flower colour and shape, marginal, stripe and tiger variegation and bean leaf varieties that can be very super-mini. The bean leaf varieties come in fascinating shapes and growth patterns. Fukiran is appreciated for the plant and desirable by many collectors who appreciate the plant itself even if there are no blooms.
The name Fukiran is used by the Japanese for the varieties of Neofinetia falcata and literally means ‘rich noble orchid’. The cultivation has a long history originating in the Edo era of japan (400 years ago) It is my goal to help you to continue the rich tradition of Fukiran growing.. These plants are truly different from any other orchid as each has its own character even within the same variety.
J&L Orchids has been growing and propagating a wide range of orchids for the past 37 years. Our specialty areas are unusual species, miniatures, masdevallias, draculas and other pleurothallidinae. Although we sell predominately species, we were influential in starting the revival in masdevallia hybridizing in the early 1980's and continue to sell a variety of these colorful hybrids. A listing of our plants can be found at www.jlorchids.com
We welcome visitors to our greenhouse daily from 9 to 4, except Sundays.
